PARKKIM

CJ E&M Headquarters Interior Landscape

CJ ENM 사옥 로비

Year of Completion: 2020

Project Location: Seoul, Korea

Client: CJ Group

PARKKIM was commissioned to design and build the interior landscape of CJ ENM headquarters’ lobby, the leader of K-pop and movie production. The frontal glass curtain wall abuts a buffering green zone built by the city, and we found this an amazing opportunity to expand the interior to a broader landscape. Although there was no required landscape area mandated by law, it was crucial to connect the inside and outside as one by utilizing the top surface of the basement utility facility as the ground for a thin yet effectively associating green space.
To dramatize the effect of sunlight penetrating through the grids of the mullion of the curtain wall, PARKKIM designed a floor pattern with artificial grass of 5m length. By alternating two materials with very different hardness, the strips of artificial terrabirtin and artificial grass, there created a podium that makes the lobby stretch into the exterior forest, giving extra comfortness.
The most important thing during construction was securing the smooth transition of the surfaces of different materials. For the comfortable movement of visitors and free furniture arrangement, the smoothness of artificial grass and artificial marble was experimented several times through on-site testing with 1:1 scale mock-up, and as a result, the 5mm level difference found out to be perceived as one smooth horizon by the visitors without causing any inconvenience.
Mosswall, installed on the welcoming area of the lobby, is supposed to represent CJ’s logo in a less literal way, just as the reflection pond of CJ Blossom Park did. The green strips flowing from the wall and continue all the way to the floor integrate the whole spatial devices into one, and the vertical oak louver that supports the moss wall is further emphasized by the sufficient natural light from the outside.
